The Detox Diet - Is This A Good Method for You?

By James Steele

Much has been written about the detox diet (detoxification) over the decades. It seems the past ten years, roughly, have seen an explosion of these diets. The basic principle is the same across all of them, and that is to use foods (or liquids) to help your body get rid of toxins. First, we must caution you and suggest you talk to your doctor before embarking on any kind of detox diet. Many people turn to this overall approach when they want to lose weight. While it is possible to achieve that, we feel the loss will be temporary for a variety of reasons. We will talk more about the detox diet in the rest of this article.

There are many forms of the detox diet that people consume every day. The detox diet is a way of combining certain liquids with various foods that will cause a reaction, especially in your bowels. For example, adequate amounts of fiber and water stimulate the organs and processes involved with detoxification. To remain a healthy person, the elimination of poisonous waste is a daily necessity. Bowel movements are required on a daily basis to keep the intestinal tract free of toxic waste build-up. Depending on the duration without elimination, it is possible for toxins to be introduced into the body via the vascular system.

Improved digestion and a more efficient immune system are two positive results from a detox diet. Other benefits include a sense of well-being and a surge of energy.

One of the main purposes of the liver is to purify your blood. Since plants have been used for healing, it is not a surprise that herbs can be found that give optimal support to the liver. Many substances are good for cleaning the liver, and some of these are Milk Thistle, which might be the best, and also Burdock root and Chlorella. Detoxification is a necessary activity for the total health of the body, and using herbal materials to improve liver function will be beneficial. The largest organ the body has is the skin, and it is totally involved with detoxification. Keeping the skin clean is important, so a couple times a week you should simply brush it. Removal of dead skin through dry brushing is an important way to open up the pores, and also a good way of blood flow stimulation.

It goes without saying that everyone would benefit by a solid detox diet every year or so. Especially countries in the Western part of the world, who consume far too many processed foods, would profit by using a detox diet on a regular basis. But, sadly, society in these areas of the world are leery of many of any alternate approaches to health, and detox diets are either not well-received, or are ignored altogether.
